This is not a feature for feature fight
ChatGPT is not an ads platform and was never trying to be. Scoring the two on a checklist of ad features would miss the real decision, which is this: should the AI in your media buying workflow be a general assistant you paste context into, or a system that already holds the context and can act on it.
The general assistant path works. Plenty of good media buyers use ChatGPT daily for angles, hooks, competitor teardowns and turning a messy brief into something coherent. That is real value, and this page will not pretend otherwise.
It stops at the edge of your ad account. Everything it knows about your performance is whatever you pasted into the conversation. Everything it produces has to be carried back out by hand into Ads Manager. Close the tab and nothing continues.
Koast is built the other way round. The model is connected to your ad accounts, your creative pipeline and your attribution, and it has tools that write. It can read yesterday's numbers without being told them, assemble a campaign from approved creative, publish a batch across every account, and keep running a stop loss every five minutes after you have logged off. Teams on Koast have processed more than 1.5 billion dollars in ad spend.
General purpose model vs purpose built ad tooling
| What you are buying | Koast | ChatGPT |
|---|---|---|
| Product category | Ad operations platform with an AI agent inside it | General purpose assistant for any task |
| Writes ad copy | ||
| Generates images | ||
| Sees your live performance data without you pasting it | Connected to your ad accounts and attribution | Works from what you provide in the conversation |
| Publishes ads into a Meta ad account | Batch across up to 10 accounts on Growth | |
| Applies your naming conventions and UTMs at publish time | Structure templates | Can draft the convention, cannot apply it |
| Acts on your ad account with nobody in the loop | Agent tasks run every 5 minutes | |
| Creative review and approval workflow | Frame.io, Google Drive, Dropbox, direct upload | Not an asset management tool |
| Pricing model | Flat monthly fee, never a percentage of ad spend | Consumer and team subscription tiers |
ChatGPT ships new capabilities constantly. This table describes the shape of the two products, not a permanent scorecard, so check the current feature set before you decide.
What breaks when a chat window is the workflow
The context problem
Good advice about an ad account needs spend, ROAS, CPA, CTR and creative history per ad set. Pasting that in is either a screenshot the model has to squint at or a CSV export that is stale the moment you paste it. Koast reads it live from the account.
The re-keying problem
A chat window returns text. Somebody still has to open Ads Manager, create the campaign, name it correctly, attach the pixel, set the conversion event and upload the creative. That is where naming drifts and where tracking gets missed.
The nothing runs problem
Budget burns at three in the morning. A conversation cannot pause an ad that has spent fifty dollars with no conversion attributed. A connected agent task can, on a five minute cadence, across every account you manage.
How Koast uses the model differently
- Ask for a triage of the account, and the agent pulls the numbers itself instead of asking you for them.
- Ask it to build a campaign, and it assembles a draft from creative already approved in your pipeline.
- Your structure template supplies naming and tracking, so the output is consistent rather than plausible.
- Nothing writes to Meta until you sign off on a summary of exactly what will be created.
- Approved guardrails become agent tasks that keep running long after the conversation ends.
- Recaps land in Slack, so the team sees what the agent did without opening the tool.
When ChatGPT is the better tool
Often. If you want to think out loud about positioning, pressure test an offer, research a category you have never bought in, rewrite a landing page, draft a client email or work on literally anything that is not a Meta ad account, a general purpose assistant is the right tool and a specialised platform is overkill. It is also considerably cheaper as a subscription, and for a solo operator spending a few thousand a month that maths can be decisive.
These are not really competitors, they are different layers. A general model is a thinking tool. Koast is an operating tool. Most teams we talk to use both, and the split is clean: strategy in the chat window, execution and guardrails in the platform.
Where it stops being a fair trade is volume. Once you are running several ad accounts, shipping creative weekly and relying on someone to notice a bad ad before it burns a day of budget, the copy and paste loop becomes the expensive part. That is the point where purpose built tooling pays for itself.
Questions people ask
Is Koast just ChatGPT with a Meta login on top?
No. The agent has tools that read and write against your ad accounts, creative pipeline and attribution data, and every write goes through a sign off step. Reasoning is one part of it. The connections, the guardrails and the batch launch are the product.
Can I still write my own copy?
Yes. Copy generation is optional at every step. You can bring finished copy and creative and use Koast purely for templating, batch launching and automation.
Does the agent change things without asking?
Writes require sign off. You confirm a summary of exactly what will be created or changed before it touches Meta. Agent tasks that you set live, such as a stop loss, run on their own by design, and you approve those when you create them.
What does Koast cost compared to a chat subscription?
Growth is 149 dollars per month billed monthly, or 111 dollars per month billed annually, with a seven day trial. It is more than a consumer chat subscription and it is doing a different job. Koast never charges a percentage of ad spend.
Which platforms can it publish to?
Meta is the deep integration for launching and automation. TikTok is live, and Whop ad account creation is on the roadmap. Attribution and workflow integrations cover Cometly, Slack, Frame.io, Google Drive and Dropbox.
